Orthodontics is not a one-age service. What we recommend for a seven-year-old with a developing bite is nothing like what we recommend for a 40-year-old whose teeth shifted after braces two decades ago.
KidsThe American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic check by age seven. Most kids that age need nothing yet. The point of the visit is to see how the jaw and adult teeth are developing, catch crowding or bite problems while they are still easy to influence, and tell you honestly if treatment can wait. |
TeensThe classic orthodontic years, and the ones we have the most practice with. Teens choose between metal, clear, or gold braces and Invisalign Teen, and the right answer usually comes down to their sport, their instrument, and how reliably they will wear removable trays. |

Metal BracesStainless steel brackets and wires are still the most reliable tool for complex bites and big tooth movements. Modern brackets are smaller than the ones you remember, and there is a wide range of band colors, if that is the fun part. |
Clear BracesSame mechanics as metal braces, with ceramic brackets that blend into the tooth. A good middle ground for adults and teens who need the control of fixed braces but would rather they not be the first thing people notice.

Gold BracesReal gold-tone brackets, for patients who would rather make a choice than hide one. Functionally, the same as metal braces. This is the option people pick on purpose.

Invisalign Clear AlignersA series of custom clear trays that move teeth without brackets or wires. Removable for meals, brushing, and flossing, which is why most adults ask about them first. They only work while they are in your mouth, so we are candid about the 20-to-22-hour commitment. |

Biolase Soft-Tissue LaserA laser lets us sculpt gum lines and reduce heavy gum tissue, including a thick frenulum between the top front teeth. It is the finishing work most orthodontic offices send out, and we do it here. |

Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does an orthodontist do that a general dentist does not?
An orthodontist completes two to three years of specialty residency after dental school, focused entirely on tooth movement, bite correction, and jaw development. Some general dentists offer aligner treatment, which is legal and sometimes appropriate, but the training is not the same. Board certification through the American Board of Orthodontics is the extra step on top of that.
2) Do I need a referral from my dentist?
No. Plenty of our patients are referred by their general dentist, and we coordinate closely with those offices, but you are welcome to call us directly and book a consultation on your own.
3) How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Most full orthodontic cases run somewhere between 12 and 30 months, and simple corrections finish faster. The honest answer depends on how far your teeth have to move and how consistently you follow the plan, which is why you get a projected timeline at the consultation rather than a number off a website.
4) Braces or clear aligners: how do I choose?
Aligners win in appearance, comfort, and the ability to eat normally. Braces win in complex bites, large movements, cases that need elastics or expansion, and for any patient who will not reliably keep trays in for 20 hours a day. We treat both, so we have no reason to steer you. Bring your teeth in, and we will tell you which tool fits.
