How Invisalign Works
Invisalign replaces brackets and wires with a series of custom-made, virtually invisible aligner trays. Each tray is shaped slightly differently from the last, so as you move through the series, your teeth shift gradually and precisely toward their planned positions.
Because the trays are removable, you can take them out to eat, brush, and floss, which means no food restrictions and an easier time keeping your teeth clean during treatment. And because there are no metal components, most people will not notice you are wearing them at all.
The catch, and we would rather say it up front: aligners only work while they are in your mouth. Treatment depends on your wearing them on schedule. If that sounds like a problem, braces might genuinely be the better call, and we will say so.
Invisalign or Braces? An Honest Comparison
Both straighten teeth. They suit different people and different cases, so here is the straight version.
| Invisalign Clear Aligners | Traditional Braces | |
| Appearance | Virtually invisible in everyday wear | Visible, though brackets are smaller than they used to be |
| Removable | Yes, for eating, brushing, and flossing | No, fixed for the duration of treatment |
| Food restrictions | None, since trays come out to eat | Some foods need to be avoided to protect brackets and wires |
| Depends on you | Yes. Results follow your wear schedule | Less so. They work whether you think about them or not |
| Complex movement | Handles a wide range of cases | Still the most predictable for severe crowding and bite correction |
| Color customization | Not applicable | Yes, band colors at every adjustment visit |

Who Can Benefit from Invisalign
Adults
The most common reason adults choose aligners: they want a straighter smile without brackets in every meeting and photo. Discreet, removable, and no need to explain anything to anyone.
Teens
Invisalign Teen® is designed for growing smiles and includes eruption tabs that leave room for teeth that are still coming in. It is a practical choice for teens in sports and activities where brackets get in the way.
Previous Braces Patients
Teeth that drifted after earlier treatment are often a straightforward aligner case. If that is you, a consultation will tell you quickly.
Who It May Not Suit
Significant bite correction and severe crowding are still more predictable with braces. We would rather tell you that at the consultation than halfway through treatment.
What to Expect
1. Complimentary Consultation
Come on in and let us take a look. We examine your teeth and bite, talk through whether aligners or braces suit your case better, and answer every question on your list.
2. iTero Digital Scan
We use the iTero scanner rather than the gooey mouth trays traditional impressions require. It is more comfortable and more accurate, and its Invisalign outcome simulator shows you a projection of your finished smile right at the start.
3. Your Custom Aligners
Your orthodontist plans the full sequence of tooth movement, and your aligner series is manufactured to that plan. You will get clear instructions on your wear schedule and how to move through the trays.
4. Check-In Visits
You will come in periodically so your orthodontist can confirm your teeth are tracking to plan and hand over your next set of trays. We schedule carefully to ensure you’re seen on time.
5. Retention
When you finish your series, you move into a retainer to hold your new smile in place. Your orthodontist will explain exactly how to wear it, because it protects everything you just did.

Invisalign Questions
Is Invisalign as effective as braces?
For many cases, yes. Aligners handle crowding, spacing, and many bite issues well. Some complex movement is still more predictable with braces, which is why your orthodontist looks at your specific case before recommending either.
How many hours a day do I need to wear my aligners?
Aligners only work while you wear them, so you need to keep them in for most of the day and overnight. Your orthodontist will give you the specific wear schedule for your treatment plan.
Can teens use Invisalign?
Yes. Invisalign Teen is designed for growing smiles and includes eruption tabs that leave room for teeth still coming in, making it practical for teens in sports and other activities where brackets can get in the way.
Will I be able to see my results before I start?
Our iTero scanner includes an Invisalign outcome simulator, so you can see a projection of your finished smile at the very beginning of treatment rather than at the end.
Does insurance cover Invisalign?
We accept most insurance plans and offer financing options. Our team will walk you through your coverage and payment choices before treatment starts, without turning your first visit into a math test.
