 In Uncategorized

November is here, and our offices in Mesa, Chandler, and Queen Creek, Arizona are ready for another excuse to celebrate the lovely fall season! Day of the Dead, traditionally known as Dios De Las Muertos, is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd. It is mostly observed by people of Mexican heritage, though lately it has become popular around the world. For our monthly blog, we will go over the holiday and how we acknowledge it at Garn & Mason Orthodontics in Arizona.

What is the Day of the Dead?

Although the name may sound darker in nature, the holiday takes on a more joyful celebration rather than mourning. It involves family and friends getting together to pay their respects to those they have lost. These celebrations are not somber. Instead, participants take a humorous and lighthearted approach to remembering loved ones.

The most iconic symbol of Day of the Dead has been the Calavera, also known as the Sugar Skull. It is an ornately decorated picture of a skull that often features flowers, animals, and other decorations. During the celebration, you may see these everywhere. They are intended to acknowledge the departed without taking on a morbid tone.
